  • An employer vetted job board?
By on July 29, 2019 | Comments Off on An employer vetted job board? Comments

On Twitter last week I noticed a new account called DayJoys. It’s a new job board with a twist: they vet all employers that can post with them. Their motto says it all:

Because life’s too short for sucky jobs.

I agree. Life is too short to work for companies who don’t care about their workers. But does this make a good business model?

    Maybe, maybe not.

    According to their FAQ page employers can be invited by them or apply to be included after undergoing a vetting process. Its a little unclear how they plan to do that. They do publish the following though;

So they may be using reviews on Glassdoor and Indeed to vet the companies. If so, why not just use those sites? You can filter by scores and see just about every company.

To me, DayJoys should be a site that focuses on the employer life/culture not just the jobs. If they really want to showcase great employers then build out a company directory that does that. Help them explain to seekers why they are great. Give them ways to upload photos, videos, stories and more to highlight themselves.

The current DayJoys site looks and functions like a typical job board but it doesn’t have many jobs right now. That may change over time but they will face a traffic problem if they cant attract seekers in a hurry.

I do give them credit for trying this approach. There are lots of those ‘best company to work for‘ lists out there I always felt a site for just those firms could gain some traction.

Fizbuz is a new job matching site for developers. Carlos Rabasa, whose own resume includes developer and program manager roles at Twilio, Microsoft and others, is the founder of Fizbuz, a new platform for developers to build detailed professional profiles and connect with employers.

“I want to create a product that allows people to express themselves holistically,” serving as a sort of personal marketing tool, Rabasa said.

That means going beyond a standard list of employers, job titles and degrees earned. Fizbuz CVs include specific information about the coding languages, libraries (a sort of reusable piece of code) and framework in a developers’ skill set. Users can share preferences for what sort of company, role, team and physical workplace they’re looking for. They can describe other activities they’re passionate about and organizations and events that they lead or participate in. Full article on Geekwire.

  • Technical.ly is a Job Match Making Site for the Mid-Atlantic Region
By on November 26, 2018 | Comments Off on Technical.ly is a Job Match Making Site for the Mid-Atlantic Region Comments

Just spotted:  Technical.ly Match beta, a double opt-in direct placement service that “fits the needs of today’s workforce and promises to deliver only quality results to both sides of the process.” It is targeted for Mid-Atlantic states like Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

In a stealth pilot, the site claims more than 2,000 Technical.ly readers from seven states opted-in and 10 companies are actively matching with them. Companies such as Philadelphia-headquartered Chariot Solutions and Maryland-based Stanley Black & Decker have found technical hires through them. Tecnical.ly claims a handful more that were placed during their pilot. Visit the site.

They are pitching the platform as a talent to company matchmaker. That could be just be a fancy word for job board because I noticed at least some of the applies went tot he company email address. Pretty simple, but still effective.

Technical.ly is also an online community for the tech industry in the area it serves. Other sites like this include VentureFizz for the Boston area. They started with content around news, events, startups and eventually added jobs to the mix.

This formula is what I mean when I tell job board owners to ‘create a community of like minded professionals‘. Starting a job board today? Good, but first you must build a foundation. Spend your first year building up an audience so that eventually jobs make a natural evolution in your offerings. This means focusing on content—and lots of it. Blogs, podcasts, videos, events will enable you to find and keep the audience you need. You can still launch with jobs on day one but your primary goal should be creating content that resonates in your niche.

  • New Site Launch: WallStreetCareers.com
By on November 5, 2018 | Comments Off on New Site Launch: WallStreetCareers.com Comments

Staffing agencies are waking up to the fact that job boards offer another source of revenue and are beginning to launch more of their own job boards. Case in point is the newly launched WallStreetCareers.com.

I just helped the owner, himself a financial recruiter, launch the site on the Jobboard.io platform.

Through my concierge service I setup and configured the entire site including adding some original backfill from targeted employers. Its the quickest and easiest way to get your job board off the ground in less than 1 weeks time.

Staffing agencies are being squeezed by vendors like Indeed which recently announced they will longer list their jobs for free in an effort to become an employer only destination. Job boards allow agencies to control their own destiny and also get listed on Google Jobs, the new free source for job traffic.

In addition, it allows them to monetize their vast databases of candidates by sending them to their own online property. Watch my webinar about staffing firms and job boards to learn more about why its a good idea.

So…please Wall Street Careers to the job board world!
