Is your job board on twitter?

You should already be tweeting job search advice and industry news but your jobs should also be in the mix. And you may want a separate twitter account to do it. For the simple reason of showing up on twitter search.

Take Ziprecruiter for example. They have a main twitter account @ziprecruiter which they use to promote their service and retweet others. But they also have @zrjobs which is a job only feed of every job that gets posted to their system.

The @zrjobs account has over 3700 followers too! Thats a lot of followers for just a job feed. Their job tweets are optimized meaning they including the job title, comp name and location and a hashtag #job. If you run an niche site you should also include a hashtag like #marketing #job if thats the niche you serve.

Twitter is only getting bigger and its becoming a good source of job leads for people. In fact I did an interview with someone who found their job on twitter (listen here).

More employers and staffing firms are now pushing their jobs to twitter which means its a great place to search for them. In the coming weeks I’m actually debuting a new service to help job seekers find these jobs as well as helping job boards/employers/recruiters get more traffic and followers.

So get your twitter job feeds ready, I’m going to start sending you free traffic!

  • Recruiters on twitter
By on September 11, 2013 | Comments Off on Recruiters on twitter Comments

There are a lot of recruiters on twitter. If you did a survey I bet recruiters, sales people and social media consultants are in the top 10 occupations for people on the platform. So from a job board or HR tech product standpoint you better be engaging with them, after all, your business depends on their dollars.

Start following them and retweet their stuff, favorite their tweets (they’ll get pinged with an email), start developing a relationship with your target market.

For a few weeks this summer my developer and I built a simple twitter directory for recruiters, staffing and HR professionals. Its called ‘RECRITTERS‘ (mashup of ‘recruiter’ and ‘twitter’) . Its a cool site that organizes them into industry and also has a leaderboard that shows the biggest influencers according to number of followers. Its only got about 100 or people in it but it will get bigger over time. And since I own it, it doubles as a lead gen tool.

You can create cool things with the Twitter API, Recritters is a great example of that. Feel free to use it to find recruiters to follow, but beware I dont allow job board accounts on it. Trying to keep it people focused.

  • Is your job board on twitter?
    By on April 10, 2012 | 4 Comments4 Comments Comments

    If not you should be.

Why? well first of all social media is free advertising. Who doesn’t want that? Secondly, its a way to engage your users and let them FOLLOW YOU.

Thirdly its a way to promote your listings on social media and drive traffic to them. Not a ton of traffic but enough to make it worthwhile.

Fourth its also good for SEO. By having accounts on Facebook, Twitter, G+ you can show up in more search results. For anyone following you its kike subscribing to an RSS feed.

    So how do you set up your twitter account to take advantage of these benefits? Here’s how;

    1. Take your XML or RSS job feed and set up an account with Twitterfeed.com. It will auto feed all your listings. Be sure to add hashtags like #jobs and whatever other keywords important to your niche.

    2. Your twitter account should have a branded background image. Check out mine for allcountyjobs. Think of it as a splash page.

    3. Stuff your twitter profile with keywords and of course link back to your website.

    4. Add “Follow Us on Twitter” links to the header or footer of your job bboard. Make it easy for people to follow you.

    5. Finally and this is most important. Dont just feed your jobs and ignore the account. Retweet other users and put a human behind the twitter account. You dont need to spend hours on it, just a few minutes morning-noon and night will suffice. Retweet job hunting articles and become an advocate for both employers and job hunters.

Do these things and your twitter followers will increase over time. Plus if you ever want to sell your site having an active twitter account will make it more valuable.

BONUS TIP: Create an account for just jobs like @talentzoojobs does. This way you can seperate out the jobs for those only wishing to get that content. That will free you up to use your main twitter account for engaging with your fans.
