Most job boards only use adsense or other ad networks to generate revenue from ads. But few take advantage of selling their own. Over the years I’ve sold dozens of my own ads by simply charging a flat monthly fee for X number of spots on a homepage or throughout the site. If you are just starting out, give away one spot and then right below it put an ad that says something like “Your Ad Here” to attract potential advertisers.
Recently on CONNtechjobs.com, my new local site for CT tech jobs, I did just that. Look along the right column and you’ll see an ad for the company I recruit for and a “Your Logo Here” ad below it.
If you only have small traffic charge like $25-$99 per month for a small ad like the one above. Limit the amount of advertisers to create scarcity and over time you will get inquiries from potential advertisers. Its a simple way to directly attract new revenue that is 100% yours instead of sharing it with Google through adsense.
NOTE: look for ad banner hosting sites like Ad Butler if you want help managing your own ads. A site like IMGUR.com might also be helpful.
