In my guide to job board marketing I told the story of how I got 30,000 visits from a job listing I shared on a local Facebook jobs group. So this got me thinking about how job boards can guarantee themselves a stream of free traffic.
It used to be the job search engines like Indeed provided a ton of free traffic to job boards. When I ran AllCountyJobs I was getting 40,000 free clicks from Indeed every month. They would eventually cut off that free spigot.
Today there are only two ways to get free traffic to your job board. Google or social media. Google takes a lot of work and a lot of time to rank so that leaves only social media as the quickest way to boost your numbers for free. In particular I am talking about Facebook Groups.
So my idea is to not only use Facebook job groups but actually BUY them.
There are many job search groups on Facebook that target cities states and certain industries.
Job board owners should seek out any groups relevant to their niche. Approach the admin of the groups and offer them money to transfer ownership. If successful add your sites branding to it and use the group to post all or some of your jobs each and every day. The bigger the group the more free traffic you can get.
As an example look at this job search group for Dallas area job seekers. It has over 14,000 members. That’s thousands of potential new users that you can market to forever!
I’d be willing to pay as much as $2,000 to own this group if I ran a Texas or Dallas based job board. Of course, the more members it has the more expensive it will be. You may find that some Admins don’ want to sell. Be politely persistent. Wait them out. Your sights should be set on acquiring that group at some point and making it an asset to your job board business.
The same rule applies to LinkedIn groups. And they even let you send a broadcast email once per week.
